Working with Wood

We finally took our love of woodworking past the hobby stage and opened a business! My Elevation Creations is now a laser and CNC crafting business. We make custom gifts, home decor, water bottles, hats, and much more. We can also sublimate, and make vinyl creations, as well as the classic crochet projects. We love to work with wood, but have also ventured into acrylic, leatherette, and as mentioned water bottles. Take a look at our shop. We hope you find something that brings you joy!

This is my woodworking page. I will share projects I’ve done and ask for suggestions of projects to try. I have always loved the smell of wood, and I’ve discovered that making things with reclaimed wood or brand new from the hardware store wood is very fun and therapeutic. I like to use power saws, sanders, and drills. Putting on multiple layers of paint or stain is not my favorite part, because it gets tedious, but it sure does look good when it’s done. I think that’s why I love the wood oils like cedarwood, sandalwood, juniper berry, white fir, douglas fir, and frankincense. They are very grounding and take me to the woods when I am not able to go for real, which is another love of mine.

When I was 17, I worked at a place called Lazy KT pallet and stake. People thought it was a restaurant, but it was a business that made wood pallets, and stakes. I ran a 22″ radial arm saw all summer! It was hot and sweaty work, but I loved it. My muscles were strong, and it got me out of bed early. We started at 6am to beat the heat of the Idaho desert. I remember waiting for the huge circle sprinkler to come and spray over my cutting shed. It didn’t happen often enough!

My love of wood started early for me, and I’m sure it will continue. Hopefully, I will be able to pass it on to future generations and I’m happy for the chance to share it with you all here.

Barn Doors and Benches

I love to work with wood. I love the smell of it and the feel of it in my hands. When we built our home last year, we knew we wanted to build some original doors for our mudroom and master bath, as well as a mudroom bench. We were blessed to learn that just when we needed it, my lifelong friend in Adrian had torn down an old house and some out buildings and corrals. He graciously offered this wood to me so we could build these beautiful doors and bench. Thanks, Eric! I’ll always remember our friendship when I see this wood in my home.           The barn doors were so much fun and a lot of hard work. The kids all helped pull nails out of each board, and then we sanded, dry fit, and screwed them together. They were so warped from years of being out in the weather it was a little difficult to keep them together. We used lots of clamps and muscle. The mudroom bench was much the same way. Most of the boards were 16 feet long and very twisted after being part of a coral for 50+ years, so we measured […]
